El juego Minecraft se encuentra desarrollado en el lenguaje de programación ‘Java’, por lo que es muy importante, y necesario, tenerlo instalado para poder jugar.
Java es actualizado continuamente, pero no todas sus versiones son completamente compatibles con las versiones de Minecraft, esto se debe a que en cada actualización agregan y quitan funciones que pueden producir un funcionamiento erróneo del juego.
Actualmente la versión recomendada para jugar Minecraft es la versión 1.8.0_51, sobre todo, en ordenadores que poseen una gráfica con chipset Intel, de primera o segunda generación y utilizan Windows 10, ya que en ese caso, si posee una versión de Java superior a la 8u60, se le presentará el típico error «Pixel Format Not Accelerated» (aunque este no es el único motivo por el que aparece dicho error).
Es importante que antes de instalar esta versión, primero des-instale todas las versiones de Java que posea instaladas, esto para asegurarse que el juego no sea ejecutado con otra versión. Luego de la instalación y de iniciar el launcher, puede verificar que sea ésta la versión a utilizarse, ingresando al editor de perfil, y asegurándose que en el apartado «Configuración Java > Ejecutable» se encuentre la ruta a dicha versión (no es recomendable que active esta opción, el launcher se encargará de asignarle el valor correspondiente).
