Afraid of the Dark es un mod enfocado hacia la magia, que se encarga de ofrecernos nuevas aventuras a través de una nueva generación masiva de estructuras alrededor del mundo, con nuevos mobs, nuevas batallas, nuevos objetos y nuevos biomas, entre otras novedades.
Este mod añade todo un sistema de magia e investigación muy similar al que podemos encontrar en Thaumcraft, así que, si ya dominamos este mod, Afraid of the Dark será mucho más fácil de comprender, ya que tiene muchos paralelismos con respecto a Thaumcraft. Aún así, el mod añade una guía que nos informa y orienta, tanto de los crafteos, como de sus funcionalidades (en inglés).
