Dynamic Surroundings es un mod que en sus inicios tenía por objetivo mejorar la lluvia en Minecraft. Aunque con el tiempo se han añadido otros efectos visuales y sonoros, cómo por ejemplo las míticas auroras boreales de un mod que hace mucho tiempo que se dejó de actualizar, Aurora Rubealis Mod, y toma detalles de otro mod llamado Better Rain.
Con este mod instalado cuando se ponga a llover, la lluvia tendrá una intensidad variable de entre los valores 0 y 100, siendo 0 el chispeo o lluvia débil y 100 un aguacero o lluvia intensa. Aún así, tanto el efecto de las partículas cómo el sonido no será tan molesto cómo lo es en la lluvia predefinida de Minecraft.
Además de estas modificaciones o mejoras en la lluvia, el mod también añade otros efectos visuales, cómo por ejemplo las auroras boreales aleatorias en los biomas nevados, tormentas de arena en el desierto, efectos para la lava del Nether y nevadas suaves en los biomas nevados.
