Extra Rails nos permite mejorar las funcionalidades de nuestros sistemas ferroviarios con tres nuevos tipos de vía que podremos crear en Minecraft. Estas nuevas vías nos permitirán cosas como detener carretillas, teleportar carretillas y hacer vías de sentido único.
Estas tres vías se diferencian entre si por su aspecto. La vía de bloqueo tiene un candado dibujado y se encarga de detener cualquier vagoneta que pase por encima y volver a impulsarla cuando reciba una señal de restone. La vía de teletransporte tiene una bola de slime dibujada y sirve para teletransportar vagonetas de un punto a otro. Por último la vía de dirección tiene una flecha dibujada y hace que esta vía sólo tenga un "sentido de circulación", el mismo hacia el cual apunta la flecha.
