Extra Rails es un mod que nos permitirá fabricar hasta tres nuevas variantes de vías, que nos aportarán nuevas funcionalidades a la hora de crear y utilizar sistemas ferroviarios en Minecraft. Por ejemplo, podremos detener vagonetas, teletransportar vagonetas y definir un sentido de circulación de vagonetas.
La diferencia estética entre estas nuevas vías se encuentra en el propio diseño de la vía. La vía con una bola de Slime es la que nos permitirá teletransportar una vagoneta de un punto a cualquier otro punto. La vía con un candado dibujado, parará cualquier vagoneta que paso por encima, hasta que reciba una nueva señal de redstone. Por último, la vía con una flecha dibujada, nos permite establecer el sentido en que viajarán las vagonetas, que será el que nos indique la flecha.
