MineColonies nos ofrece un completo sistema de creación de ciudades, con ciudadanía formada por NPC's trabajadores, de aspecto humano. Con este mod instalado podremos crear diversos bloques que contendrán estructuras y construcciones predefinidas, aunque no sirven sólo para decorar, cada estructura generará personajes que trabajarán en dicha estructura.
Pongamos algunos ejemplos para ilustrar su funcionamiento. Si creamos la estructura de minería, se generará un minero, cuya laborar será minar y recoger recursos minerales, mientras que si creamos una granja, se generará el granjero que criará animales. Lo mismo ocurrirá con los agricultores, leñadores, pescadores, constructores, banqueros, herreros, albañiles, guardias y repartidores.
Para empezar a crear todas estas estructuras tendremos que empezar por construir el Ayuntamiento, que generará un constructor. Éste es el trabajador más importante, pues es él el encargado de la construcción y mejora de los diversos edificios de nuestra ciudad.
