Ruins se encarga de generar toda una serie de nuevas estructuras en nuestros mundos de Minecraft. La gran mayoría de estas nuevas estructuras tendrán un aspecto ruinoso y estarán custodiadas por enemigos. Aunque no todas serán ruinosas. Algunos ejemplos de estas estructuras serían castillos, barcos, globos aerostáticos y casas entre otros.
Tampoco todas estas estructuras estarán repletas de enemigos, pues no se trata de un mod que genere nuevas mazmorras, si no de ruinas y otro tipo de estructuras. Por tanto, en las que no se encuentren enemigos podremos encontrar tesoros ocultos, mientras que las que estén custodiadas por enemigos, seguirán teniendo tesoros ocultos, pero antes deberemos acabar con los enemigos que los protegen.
