Sky Islands es un mod que se encarga de ofrecernos una nueva generación de terreno, que consiste en un mundo lleno de islas flotantes. Dichas islas tendrán tamaños diversos, y estarán formadas por diversos tipos de biomas, ya sea un bioma por isla, o un isla que contiene varios biomas en una misma isla.
De forma predefinida, tras instalar el mod, no se generará este nuevo tipo de terreno. Para ello tendremos que generar un nuevo mundo, y en las opciones de Tipo de mundo, tendremos que escoger la opción "Skyland". Tras escoger esta opción y crear el nuevo mundo, empezará a generarse el nuevo tipo de terreno, formado por islas flotantes.
Este mod también es compatible con los biomas que se generan en el mod Biomes O' Plenty, por lo que si instalamos, también, dicho mod, se generarán nuevas islas con los biomas de Biomes O' Plenty, tal y como podemos ver en el ejemplo de la imagen inferior.
