Spartan Shields nos ofrece la posibilidad de crear varias clases de escudo, dependiendo del material utilizado en su fabricación. Por defecto, en Minecraft, tan sólo podemos crear un tipo de escudo, hecho con hierro y madera. Este mod nos permite crear ocho escudos con materiales diferentes, lo mismo que ocurre con armas, herramientas y armaduras.
Con este mod podremos hacer escudos de madera, piedra, hierro, oro, diamante, bronce y plata, además de un escudo extra que sólo podremos fabricar si también tenemos instalado el mod Ender IO (todavía no disponible para esta versión).
La mayoría de estos escudos, excepto los de madera y piedra, nos protegerán mejor de los ataques que el escudo predefinido en el juego y además podrán ser encantados con varios de los encantamientos existentes en Minecraft.
