Useful Pets es un mod que se encarga de modificar y añadir nuevos parámetros en algunos animales de Minecraft, para ofrecernos la funcionalidad de convertir ciertos animales en mascotas, y además añadir un sistema de niveles que nos permitirá hacer evolucionar nuestras mascotas y lograr que aprendan nuevas habilidades.
Para convertir un animal en mascota, lo primero que deberemos hacer es lanzarle una poción de debilidad, en ese momento cogeremos la varita que añade el mod y haremos clic izquierdo sobre nuestra futura mascota. Una vez convertido en mascota, podremos acceder a su inventario y al sistema de habilidades, pulsando Shift + clic derecho sobre el animal.
En esta nueva interfaz encontraremos el botón "Skills" que nos mostrará un árbol de habilidades desbloqueables mediante niveles de experiencia del propio animal. Por el momento los animales que podremos convertir en mascota son: cerdos, slimes, ocelotes, lobos y lepisma.
