The Lost Cities modifica la generación del mundo para añadir ciudades abandonadas a la generación de terreno del juego. Estas ciudades se generan de forma independiente a los biomas, de modo que aparecerán ciudades en todo los biomas, mientras que los biomas se seguirán generando de forma normal.
Esta nueva generación de terreno, con ciudades alrededor del mundo, nos permitirá explorar el interior de las construcciones en busca de cofres con contenido. Además que si lo deseamos podemos establecer nuestra base en cualquiera de las casas o bloques de pisos que hay repartidos por el mundo.
Para que el mod entre en funcionamiento de forma correcta, tendremos que crear un nuevo mundo, de modo que tendremos que ir al menú principal del juego, pulsar en "Un jugador", a continuación en "Crear Mundo Nuevo", seleccionar "Más opciones del mundo" y por último en tipos de mundo seleccionaremos la opción "Mundo: Lost Cities".
